Transcribe Reddit videos to text

Paste a Reddit post link to a video you have permission to process. Vocova turns rough screen recordings, phone re-uploads, and distant-mic clips into searchable text, and we're honest about what to expect.

Reddit video is useful content trapped in bad audio

Reddit is full of useful video content: tutorials, explanations, product reviews, AMA recordings, and gameplay commentary. But the audio quality is often terrible: screen recordings with system audio, phone recordings of other screens, or re-uploads compressed multiple times. Vocova transcribes Reddit videos into text so you can reference them later, but we want to be upfront: accuracy depends heavily on the source audio quality.

How it works

1

Paste the Reddit post URL

Open the Reddit post with the video and copy the URL from your browser's address bar. Both reddit.com and v.redd.it links work. Use content you have permission to process.

  • Reddit post URLs and v.redd.it direct links both work
  • Handles old.reddit.com and new Reddit URLs
  • No Reddit account required
2

AI processes the audio (whatever quality it is)

Our AI extracts the audio and does its best with whatever quality it contains. Clear spoken content transcribes well. Noisy screen recordings are a challenge.

  • Handles screen recordings with system audio mixed in
  • Works with re-uploaded and compressed video
  • Speaker detection for multi-person content
3

Review and export your transcript

Check the transcript against the video, correct any rough-audio mistakes, and export the text or subtitles in the format you need.

  • Export as TXT, SRT, VTT, DOCX, or PDF
  • Edit and correct misheard sections
  • Use timestamps to review the original video

Features

Trained on poor-quality audio

Reddit videos are the worst-case scenario for audio quality — screen recordings with system notification sounds, phone recordings of TV screens, conference talks recorded from the back row, gameplay with compressed voice chat. Our AI is trained on exactly this kind of degraded audio. Accuracy won't match a studio podcast, but it's far better than trying to manually transcribe a muffled screen recording.

Subreddit jargon tolerance

Every subreddit has its own vocabulary. r/MechanicalKeyboards talks about 'thocky' switches, r/wallstreetbets has 'diamond hands' and 'tendies.' Our model handles specialized vocabulary better than you might expect, though it won't know every niche term. You can edit the transcript to correct subreddit-specific jargon.

Personal reference library

When you have permission to keep and process a video file, a transcript makes it easier to search, quote, review, and organize the spoken information.

AMA and discussion reference

Video AMAs and recorded Reddit Talk sessions contain valuable first-hand perspectives. Transcribing them creates a searchable, citable record for research and journalism, and makes it easy to find that one answer someone gave six months ago.

Why choose Vocova

Turn saved tutorials into searchable notes

Turn useful tutorial videos you've bookmarked into searchable notes you can review later, without scrubbing through the same clip repeatedly.

Reference video AMAs accurately

Video AMAs from experts, celebrities, and industry figures are goldmines of information. Transcripts let you quote them accurately, search for specific answers, and reference the content in articles or research.

Make sense of noisy recordings

Some Reddit videos are genuinely hard to understand by ear — fast talkers, heavy accents, background noise. Reading the transcript alongside the video helps you catch what you missed. It's not perfect, but it's better than nothing.

Build a personal knowledge base

Transcribe useful videos from your favorite subreddits and build a searchable library. Find specific advice, techniques, or discussions without trying to remember which subreddit had that one video.

Frequently asked questions

How accurate should I expect Reddit video transcriptions to be?

Honestly, it varies more than any other platform. A well-recorded explainer video with clear narration will transcribe very accurately. A screen recording of a Discord call captured through phone speakers in a noisy room will have significant errors. Reddit video audio quality is often the worst on the internet, and accuracy reflects that. We recommend reviewing and editing the transcript, especially for important content.

Does it work with v.redd.it URLs?

Yes. Both full Reddit post URLs (reddit.com/r/subreddit/comments/...) and direct v.redd.it links work. We resolve the video from either format.

Can I transcribe Reddit Talk recordings?

If the Reddit Talk recording is available as a video or audio post that can be accessed via URL, yes. Reddit Talk is relatively new and its archival format varies. If the recording is accessible, we can transcribe it with speaker labels.

What about videos embedded from YouTube or other platforms?

If a Reddit post links to a YouTube video, use the YouTube URL directly with our YouTube transcription tool instead. We handle Reddit-hosted video (v.redd.it) natively. Cross-posted videos from other platforms should be transcribed using the original platform's URL.

Can I transcribe a video from a private subreddit?

No. Vocova can only access publicly available content. Videos in private or quarantined subreddits require authentication we can't provide. If you are allowed to process the content, upload the saved video file directly from the app instead.

Will it work if the Reddit post has already been deleted?

No. Once a post is deleted, the video file is removed from Reddit's servers and can't be accessed. Vocova can only process content that is publicly available at the time you submit the link.
